What is Fulvicin U/F?
Generic Name: Griseofulvin Ultramicrosize (Oral). Oral griseofulvin ultramicrosize belongs to a class of anti-fungal agents derived from a species of Penicillium.
Fulvicin U/F is a drug which helps your organism fight against fungal problems. Fulvicin U/F acts against fungal invasions just like a normal antibiotic would do against a bacterial infection. It is used to treat fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails. Griseofulvin may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Fulvicin (Griseofulvin)?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
- have ever had an allergic reaction to it,
- have porphyria, or
- have liver disease.
If you do suffer from one of these conditions you should first consult with your doctor before starting a treatment with Fulvicin U/F, as it is necessary that your physician adjust your dosage or at least monitor your condition during the treatment.
Fulvicin U/F is a Category C of the FDA pregnancy, therefore it is not known fore sure if taking this drug will harm your unborn child. If you are or might be pregnant during treatment you should not take Fulvicin U/F without your physicians permission.
It is also not known whether Fulvicin U/F can pass into breast milk. You should first ask for your doctors consent before taking Fulvicin U/F in case you are nursing a baby.
Fulvicin U/F could affect your sperm count and even your sperm production. Before starting a Fulvicin U/F treatment you should ask for your doctors opinion.
How should I use this medicine?
Fulvicin should be taken as it has been prescribed. If the patient misses a dose, the dose should be taken as soon as it is remembered. However, if it is nearing time for the next scheduled dose, the missed dose should be skipped to prevent a potential overdose. Accidental or intentional overdosing of Fulvicin requires emergency medical intervention. Symptoms of an overdose may include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, and the sensation of tingles or numbness.
Fulvicin U/F Missed Dose
You should not miss any of the prescribed doses of Fulvicin U/F. If you happen to miss one take the drug as soon as possible. Afterwards it is recommended that you should take the rest of the doses in equal time intervals until you can go back to your initial dosing programme.
Fulvicin U/F Overdose
Overdose of Fulvicin U/F may include the following symptoms:
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Confusion
- Numbness and tingling
If you happen to experience these symptoms you should seek medical attention immediately or get in touch with poison control. You should also inform your doctor of this event.
Precautions:
Avoid alcoholic beverages while you are taking this drug unless your doctor gives permission. Drinking alcohol during treatment with Fulvicin could result in a rapid heart rate and flushing of the skin. Fulvicin should be used cautiously during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is not known if this medication appears in breast milk. Consult with your doctor before breast-feeding. Griseofulvin may increase your sensitivity to sunlight. Wear protective clothing and an appropriate sunscreen. Avoid sunlamps.
